okay today we're going to be talking about multiplication fluency and I like working with the number 9 when I first start with multiplication and you'll see how I like to do that because nine is a very efficient number because it is so close to 10 when we talked about fluency that is not that is kanken rapidly are quickly just spit out an answer we got this flashcard here which two and see a lot into times 9 equals 18 so instead of students memorize that they're memorizing again just the words and it becomes rhythmic and they're not actually seeing the two times 9 is actually  2 tens minus one and that is why it is actually very efficient number to work with sunset at using finger tricks and so on and memorization to actually the start billing some fluency the student needs to be able to actually conceptualize and measure the answer before they actually spit it out so they might take them an extra second to two seconds once they learn this method for solving there 9 Asian groups  weather for split-second their brains going to actually measure calculate compute and then now with the answer so here we have we had two blocks attend and I like to have the students work with these linking cubes so what time do you have tonight is essentially two tens  -1 which would give you 20 - 2 which would be  18 so in this case right here the students get to work with us a few times Merced County one two three four five six seven eight nine 10 they have 10 and then when I see two times nine they simply count 10 2019 18 and that would also could look like this if we have three nights and I like to just write three nines on the board don't they have a piece of paper they might just see three knives but they don't see three knives and c310 so they're going to Simply  10 2030 - 1 2 3 which is 20 7  so we have four nights 10 20 30 40 - 1 2 3 4 which would be 36 students when they do this a number of times this is going to become flow with this is going to become well here off and many teachers say they need to know their division and they need to know that the name to be able to know those facts immediately  I sure it doesn't hurt to know them and a reasonable amount of time but we have a second of conceptual understanding are we can have memorization that is going to lead nowhere so take those flash car Aunt awesome good luck
